BCS DOCTRINES
All the doctrines of Brotherhood of the Cross & Star (BCS) are in conformity with the teachings and doctrines of our Lord Jesus Christ; hence BCS is a Spiritual School of Practical Christianity emphatically called Christ’s Universal Spiritual School of Practical Christianity (CUSSPC)—Isaiah 2:2-4, John 16:12-15, 1 Corinthians 13:10 & 12.
The official uniform of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is the WHITE GARMENT with CAPE known as the “SOUTANE” in conformity with Our Lord Jesus Christ revelation to John-the-Divine saying:
“…And one of the Elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in White Robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the Blood of The Lamb. Therefore are they before The Throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His Temple: and He that sitteth on The Throne shall dwell among them” (Rev. 7: 13-15).
And again, it is said: “And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the Righteousness of Saints… And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean” (Rev. 19: 8/14).
Brothers and Sisters use the same uniform, although the Sisters additionally have white head ties.
Soutane, the long white robe or garment is worn to Bethels and other places of worship by all members regardless of their ages and positions in the Kingdom (Rev. 3: 4-5, 7: 9-14). White Soutane was the same raiment that Our Lord Jesus Christ wore when He was transfigured (Matt. 17: 1-2).
White symbolizes Righteousness, Purity and Peace. Also, Soutane is a glorious heavenly robe. As such, it should be sewn with pure white material to cover the feet and even flow on the ground. It is not a worldly fashion attire. For Sisters, it is not a dress that should reveal the top of the breasts; that is, the neck should not be cut too low as to expose the bosom.
Since it is sanctified by The Holy Spirit, it should be treated with respect and kept pure and holy at all times. Members must use the garment only on missionary and spiritual activities and events.
Ecclesiastes 9:8, Matthew 17:2, Luke 9:29, Mark 16:5, Acts 1:10, Revelation 3:4, Revelation 3:5, Revelation 3:18, Revelation 4:4, Revelation 6:11, Revelation 7:9, Revelation 7:13 and Revelation 19:14.
Knocking of the head on the ground is acknowledgement of man’s infallibility and reliance on God’s mercy and grace. It reveals God’s glory as recorded in Acts 7:49 ‘‘Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or where will My place of repose be?” This method of worship is more solemn than anything else before God, because it is exactly what the angels do before God in heaven. There is no other method of worshipping God that is pleasing in His sight.
As such, BCS members knock (i.e. bow) their heads on the ground three times in reverence to The Holy Trinity God, before and after prayers, at any time, place or occasion; that is, whenever The Holy Spirit prompts and directs.
“And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.” Revelation 11:16-17
According to the Sole Spiritual Head of the Universe, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, “When you knock your head on the ground, you receive goodness, when you kneel down, you receive peace.” Knocking of the head is a very vital and effective part of communicating with God, akin to dialing a telephone number or knocking on the door before going into someone’s house. It is also known as THE FATHER’S TELEPHONE NUMBER.
Wherever you are, just kneel down and knock your head in reverence to your Father. He is there with you.
Revelation 5:8, Revelation 5:14, Revelation 19:4, Genesis 17:1-3, Mark 5:6, Joshua 5:14, 2 Chronicles 7:3, Matthew 2:11, Matthew 26: 39, I Corinthians 14:25, Revelation 4:10-11, Revelation 7:11
It is a practice in BCS that members must not put on foot wears or shoes into Bethels, or any other gathering of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star. This is done in recognition and reverence to the holiness and presence of God. You would not like a stranger to wear muddy shoes into your sparkling house, so why should we wear shoes into God’s unblemished house?
Walking barefoot is a highly spiritual practice and was observed by most of the prophets of old, during their encounter with God. He is God Almighty, the Creator of all things seen and unseen. He must be honored, praised and worshiped in all humility and with a pure heart because He desires such to worship Him.
In Acts 7:33, it is recorded: “Then the Lord said to him, “Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Throughout the Bible, there are mentions of purity in God’s presence and His Divine Sanctuary, observed by going barefoot.
Luke 22:35 – Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered.
Exodus 3:4-5, Joshua 5:15, Luke 10:4, Luke 9:3, 2 Samuel 15:30-31, John 4:23-24
Peace is the language of the New Kingdom. “Peace of the Father”, “Perfect Peace of the Father”, or “Peace be unto you” is how the Holy Spirit has taught us to greet one another. Peace is a heavenly language and Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace.
It is very common to see BCS members greeting each other in this manner anywhere, irrespective of time or occasion.
Our Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples that as they go into each house to preach, they should say “Peace be unto this house” first. (Luke 10:5)
Our Lord Jesus Christ repeatedly said “Peace be unto you”
- as recorded in John 20:21: “…Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”
- after His resurrection, “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.” John 20:19. Also see verses 21 and 26.
- when He was getting ready to go back to His Father, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
We are to emulate Our Lord Jesus Christ and the teachings He left for us through His disciples.
Matthew 10:10-13, 1 Corinthians 1-3, Ezra 7:12, Ezra 4:17, Luke 10: 5-6, John 14:27, John 20:19/21/26, Ephesians 2:13-15
All male and female members of all ages and regardless of position in the Kingdom are addressed as Brothers and Sisters respectively as we are all Brethren, being that we are of one parenthood (i.e. Adam and Eve), and come from one God.
Genesis 1:26-27, Malachi 2:10, Matthew 23:8, Acts 9:17, Revelation 6:11
In BCS, we worship in Bethels, not Churches as the world refers to these buildings as. See Genesis 28:18-19. The true meaning of Church is “A body of a person, which is where God dwells” as well as “A body of persons who believe in God”, not a building or premises. Therefore, individually, we are the Church because God dwells in each of us, and collectively, we are also the Church, being the Body of Christ. Bethel means “The House of God”, “The Gate of Heaven” and “The Place of Refuge”.
BCS Bethels are opened twenty-four hours of the day throughout the year (Rev. 7:15, 21:25). They are named after the places they are located, for easy identification and access. E.g. 8 Eton Bethel, Calabar; Elephant and Castle Bethel, London; Washington DC Bethel, USA; Soweto Bethel, South Africa.
There are two categories of Bethels, the Pentecostal Centers (PCs) and the non-Pentecostal centers. Pentecostal Centers operate as Bethels. However, during Pentecostal periods, non-Pentecostal Centers are closed down, while members converge for worship at the Pentecostal Centers throughout these periods. Pentecostal periods in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star holds three times in a year (i.e. The April, August and December Pentecostal periods).
Genesis 31:13, Genesis 35:15, Genesis 28:18-19
In line with biblical injunctions, everybody is highly encouraged to pay one-tenth of their earnings as tithe to God. All BCS Bethels and Fellowships are also expected to pay tithe from proceeds realized from functions. Tithe payment is a secret between one and God. It is one’s divine insurance policy to have good living on earth. The Lord God of Hosts has said to mankind in Malachi 3:7-12 that:
“Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from Mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto Me, and I will return unto you, saith The LORD of Hosts. But ye said, wherein shall we return? Will a man rob God? Yet ye say, wherein have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in Mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith The LORD of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for you sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith The LORD of Hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith The LORD of Hosts.”
This Scripture confirms tithing as an ancient practice. If you have been joking with the tithe belonging to God by way of not paying regularly, or using same for personal or group purpose, stop forthwith, otherwise your condition may get worse.
You attract great blessings when you pay your tithe regularly.
Fasting is a spiritual act of refraining one’s self from food, water, and the lusts of the flesh including fornication, snuffing, smoking, backbiting and the like. It is a very serious process of self-sanctification and purification and a period when one devotes one’s self to fervent prayers and supplicates to God.
Fasting brings one closer and in direct communication with one’s Creator through self-isolation, while being separated from the chaos of worldly activities. It is good for the Spirit as well as the flesh. Fasting cures all types of sicknesses and solves man’s problems.
Therefore, BCS members are enjoined to fast from 6.00a.m. to 6.00p.m., every Thursday, as it was the day Our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified (as opposed to Friday adopted by other Christian denominations). Read the Everlasting Gospel titled “Good Friday” by The Supernatural Teacher, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, The Sole Spiritual Head of the Universe.
Also, during the Annual Lenten Season of forty (40) days, BCS members are expected to partake in 6.00a.m. to 6.00p.m. fasting daily. During the three (3) Pentecostal Periods, fasting is observed daily from 6.00a.m. to 6.00p.m., to bring members closer to God, and to make them worthy to receive the Holy Words and Blessings of the Holy Father. (Acts 13: 2-3). Outside these, since fasting is the food of the Spirit, individuals may at their own discretions fast, or as may be directed by the Holy Spirit.
As with all other activities, a Love Feast is served at the break of fast. Like other activities, everything in BCS is directed and done solely by The Holy Spirit. Therefore, nothing is made compulsory or imposed on any member, as salvation is a personal race.
Matthew 17:20-21: “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Galatians 5:24-25, Acts 13: 2-3
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is a Spiritual Kingdom. As such, the answers to all your underlying problems can be solved here, by the King of all Spirits, the Sole Spiritual Head of the Universe, Olumba Olumba Obu. You must have faith, and allow God to do His work while believing in Him for a solution to your problem(s).
The Holy Father’s prescriptions to solving any kind of problem(s) include:
- Confession of sins
- Fasting and Prayer
- Celebration of Feast (love feast to commemorate the Passover or last supper) (1 Corinthians 11:23-25)
- Going on ministry work (going on an evangelical visit to a bethel other than your immediate bethel)
- Showing mercy to the poor and needy or giving of alms (James 1: 27)
- Payment of tithe, and
- Purification of one’s heart and forgiving one’s offenders
Then, have faith and patiently wait for God to do His work at the most appropriate time. BCS does not believe in magic and charms.
BCS in her worship pattern or healing processes has nothing whatsoever to do with burning of candle and incense, or sacrificing and taking of bath at the river and at midnight among other fetish acts. Also, everything is done free of charge as The Holy Spirit is the Sole Operator and Doer of all things. Showing appreciation at one’s will to a missionary or brethren who prays with you is encouraged.
There are 3 main keys in BCS—Prayers, Songs and Gospels. Brotherhood of the Cross and Star does not use any kind of musical instruments. The Sole Spiritual Head of the Universe revealed the type of songs pleasant and acceptable to God. All our songs are rendered with our lips and nothing else. We do not beat drums or clap hands, neither do we stamp our feet during songs. This is in fulfillment of the Scriptures which asserts that:
“By Him therefore let us offer the Sacrifice of Praise to God continually, that is, the Fruit of our Lips giving thanks to His Name… for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:15-16).
Have you ever taken note of the phrases “new song” recorded in:
- Revelation 14:3: “They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth.”
- Revelation 5:9: “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;”
and “songs from the Spirit” in Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”?
These show you that you must not make noise to be heard by God (Amos 5:23: “Take away from Me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.”) and as a child of God, you should know that the things of God are gentle and orderly. He created man in His likeness, meaning that we must continue to be like Him (Matthew 5:45), be the first fruit in all humility, and praise Him day and night (Revelation 7:15).
These also prove to you why the songs in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star are very unique. They are heavenly, melodious, highly spiritual to accomplish any task (healing, comforting, giving peace, hope, etc.) and they are composed by the Holy Spirit. The power conveyed through the songs could break more than the wall of Jericho. It is a healing balm which comes with divine happiness and everlasting joy.
Colossians 3:16, Revelation 14:3, Amos 5:23, Psalm 40:3, Ephesians 5:19, Hebrews 2:12
Our Lord Jesus Christ had said; “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my Name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” – John 14:26
This is a period of tri-annual daily Fellowship meetings with The Holy Father only at the World Headquarters (34 Ambo Street, Calabar, Nigeria) and at approved Pentecostal Centers. During this period, Bethels and their activities are temporarily suspended until the Pentecostal Period is over. Bethels and their members resume normal daily activities at the close of each Pentecostal Period, marked by the celebration of a feast.
It was on 8th August, 1958 that members of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) led by The Supreme Holy Father, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu first put on white apparel and marched from 8 Eton Street (the Cradle of BCS) to 26 Mbukpa Road (the Holy Chapel) in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. That Divine March of Revelation and Redemption marked the beginning of Pentecostal Assembly for Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, a day Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was revealed to the whole world.
From the maiden BCS Pentecostal Assembly which held only on the 8th of August, 1958, Brotherhood of the Cross and Star in subsequent years has gradually progressed to holding Pentecostal Assemblies for the period of three days, two weeks, until presently where each Pentecostal Assembly in a year is held for one month.
Pentecostal Assemblies serve as periods of revision of supernatural lessons taught during the preceding terms and periods of spiritual recharging when The Holy Father uses His Holy Words to do His works on brethren. It is expected that members observe 6.00a.m. to 6.00p.m. fasting daily throughout the Pentecostal period.
In all areas, there are designated Pentecostal Centers. Worship and other activities in all Bethels are not allowed during Pentecostal Periods. Brethren should take full part in Pentecostal Assemblies and Meetings, and endeavor to go to the World Headquarters, 34 Ambo Street, Calabar, Nigeria where the Christ Universal Spiritual School of Practical Christianity (CUSSPC) is to hear from The Supernatural Teacher Himself, and receive His manifold blessings.
During Pentecostal periods, all Fellowships in the Kingdom hold their meetings in turn with The Holy Father for performance appraisal, and are directed on the way forward. During these periods 5.00a.m. morning prayers, 10.00a.m. service/worship and 7.00p.m. devotions are held daily, followed by the various scheduled Fellowships’ Meeting with The Holy Father.
Normally, Pentecostal Assembly is preceded by a 3 Days and 3 Nights (or 72 Hours) Dry Fasting, held one week before the commencement of the Pentecostal Assembly. The seventy two (72) hours Dry Fasting signifies Christ’s three days and three nights in the grave; and it prepares and sanctifies members and make their bodies pure and acceptable to God for His service. The Dry Fast is not observed so that brethren might get wealthy, become healthy, have wives and husbands and any for material benefits. It is a purely spiritual exercise.
There are three Pentecostal seasons in a year and they all signify three most important events in the life of Our Lord Jesus Christ. They are:
- April Pentecostal: It is in remembrance of the betrayal, torture, pain, crucifixion, death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We remember and honor Him because He was crucified for us, and through the shedding of His Precious Blood and death, He redeemed the whole world. Also, it marks the fulfillment of His promises that He shall return to the earth; that He will send The Comforter which is The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth who shall lead all men to the accurate knowledge of truth, and the establishment of The Kingdom of God on earth.
Daniel 2:44, John 14:1-4, John 16:7/12-15, I Corinthians 13:10-12, Revelation 21:1-4 - August Pentecostal: This is in commemoration of the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ by John-the-Baptist, and Christ’s revelation as The Begotten Son of God. Also, it marks the Great March of the BCS Members from 8 Eton Street to 26 Mbukpa Road in Calabar, Nigeria on 8th August, 1958 which symbolizes the Great March of the Redeemed Children of God on earth. Matthew 3:16-17.
It should also be noted that August is ‘The Month of Revelation’ as right from the ancient times, a lot of things took place in that month. Instances include the liberation of the Children of Israel from the Land of Egypt; the Wednesday on which Our Lord Jesus Christ celebrated ‘The Passover’ was in August; the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His revelation was in August, etc. - December Pentecostal: It is in remembrance and the celebration of The Holy Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ; and that of The Supernatural Teacher and The Promised Comforter, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, The Sole Spiritual Head of the Universe on 30th December (Luke 2:10-14, Isaiah 63:1). This is the time for Christ’s glorification as He reigns in His supreme and eternal kingdom both in heaven and on earth.
